The 'Hunger Games' And 'Mulan' Mashup That Will Make Your Day

Original Song: "Honor To Us All" from Disney's "Mulan" (watch the video below for a refresher)

Cover Artist: The hilarious folks over at "Not Literally" Productions

How It's Different: Well, for one thing, Katniss from "The Hunger Games" is singing it. But we are now beginning to see the surprising number of similarities between the two films...

Why We Love It:
For its awesome lyrics like Sponsors will gladly send their gifts to you / With some training (and a great hair do!) / You will honor District Twelve!

Better than the original? Katniss and Mulan are equally badass and, come to think of it, would make an UNBEATABLE team. We'll call it a tie.

For more "Hunger Games" hilarity check out this comic, this parody trailer, and this bad lip reading.

DNA directly photographed for first time

Fifty-nine years after James Watson and Francis Crick deduced the double-helix structure of DNA, a scientist has captured the first direct photograph of the twisted ladder that props up life.

Enzo Di Fabrizio, a physics professor at Magna Graecia University in Catanzaro, Italy, snapped the picture using an electron microscope.

Previously, scientists had only seen DNA's structure indirectly. The double-corkscrew form was first discovered using a technique called X-ray crystallography, in which a material's shape is reconstructed based on how X-rays bounce after they collide with it.

But Di Fabrizio and his colleagues developed a plan to bring DNA out of hiding. They built a nanoscopic landscape of extremely water-repellant silicon pillars. When they added a solution that contained strands of DNA into this scene, the water quickly evaporated and left behind cords of bare DNA that stretched like tightropes between the tiny mesas.

They then shone beams of electrons through holes in the silicon bed, and captured high-resolution images of the illuminated molecules.

Di Fabrizio's images actually show a thread of several interwoven DNA molecules, as opposed to just two coupled strands. This is because the energy of the electrons used would be enough to destroy an isolated double helix, or a single strand from a double helix.

But with the use of more sensitive equipment and lower energy electrons, Di Fabrizio thinks that snapshots of individual double helices will soon be possible, New Scientist reports.

Molecules of DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, store the genetic instructions that govern all living organisms' growth and function.

Di Fabrizio's innovation will allow scientists to vividly observe interactions between DNA and some of life's other essential ingredients, such as RNA (r ibonucleic acid ). The results of Di Fabrizio's work were published in the journal NanoLetters.

Rust and Bone

Marion Cotillard and Matthias Schoenaerts in Rust and Bone. Marion Cotillard and Matthias Schoenaerts in Rust and Bone.

Rust and Bone (Sony Classics), a gritty, transporting romance from the French director and writer who brought us the shattering 2009 prison drama A Prophet (Jacques Audiard and Thomas Bidegain), performs a curious act of alchemy on what sounds on paper like the hokiest premise ever: A down-on-his-luck amateur kickboxer falls in love with a beautiful killer-whale trainer who?s lost both her legs in an accident during a live show at a Sea World-like place called Marineland. Cue the uplifting surge of triumph-over-disability music, right? Except not at all, because Rust and Bone (based loosely on a short story collection by the Canadian writer Craig Davidson) turns out to be a film that?s as compact and modest as it is urgent and passionate.

Rust and Bone triumphs over its own potential hokeyness in no small part because of the frank physical chemistry between its two hugely charismatic stars, Matthias Schoenaerts (the hulking-yet-gentle Belgian actor who starred in last year?s Bullhead) and Marion Cotillard. Cotillard has had a run of more or less conventional supporting roles in Hollywood since her Oscar-winning turn as Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose. She played the love-interest-turned-villain in The Dark Knight Rises, Leonardo Di Caprio?s elusive wife in Inception, and Owen Wilson?s transhistorical muse in Midnight in Paris. Rust and Bone comes as a welcome reminder that, extraterrestrially gorgeous though Cotillard is, she shouldn?t be limited to playing polished, serene objects of male desire. Her character here, St?phanie, is a viscerally sexual, fiercely independent woman, an orca trainer by day and party girl by night who crosses paths with Schoenaerts? nightclub bouncer, Ali, after she gets in a drunken fight at his club and has to be driven home.

Ali is on the run with his 5-year-old son Sam (Armand Verdure) after the boy?s mother attempted to use him as a mule in a drug-smuggling operation. Father and son arrive in Antibes at the house of Ali?s sister (Corinne Masiero), an employee at a big-box store who reluctantly agrees to take the pair in despite her brother?s poor impulse control and on-again, off-again parenting skills?obsessed with kickboxing and mixed martial arts, he would rather watch training videos online than keep an eye on his lonely, needy son.

After St?phanie loses both legs above the knee (in an accident that?s shown, artfully and without excessive gore, from an underwater whale?s-eye POV), she enters a period of deep depression, in the midst of which?for reasons that are never quite made clear?she decides to call up the Belgian bouncer who drove her home that night. Slowly the two of them initiate a friendship that?s at first physical without being sexual?on their initial outing together, Ali takes her to the beach, where his animal enjoyment of the water encourages her to join him for a swim, recently healed stumps be damned.

Whatever digital trickery is used to strip Cotillard of her legs, it?s so beautifully and simply done that we soon stop thinking of her amputee status as a special effect and accept it as a simple physical truth. When things do get sexual between Ali and St?phanie (after a matter-of-fact lunch conversation in which he offers to help her discover ?if it still works?), their love scenes together are frequent, naked, graphic, and sizzling hot. It?s easy to believe that these two very different people?an educated animal trainer and a barely verbal meathead?share a powerful connection at the level of their bodies, a bond that they need more than they understand it. The most effective moments in Rust and Bone have to do with the joys and perils of possessing a body: Late in the film, when Ali takes up fighting for money in an illegal kickboxing ring, St?phanie watches from the sidelines with a mixture of fear, excitement, and sexual desire.

Not every viewer will be seduced by Rust and Bone?s style, which might be classified as romantic naturalism. There?s plenty of roving, intimate handheld camera in the style of the Dardenne brothers (whose company helped produce the film), but the movie?s tone couldn?t be farther from Dardennes? emotional austerity. Audiard is partial to long poetic montages of light on water, copious lens flares, and the pull-out-the-stops manipulative power of American pop music. A short scene of St?phanie rocking out alone in her wheelchair to the sound of the B-52s? ?Love Shack? tells us everything we need to know about the mojo she?s slowly recovering. And a later scene, in which St?phanie returns alone to Marineland to re-encounter the orcas who deprived her of her legs, must surely represent the most exhilarating narrative use to which Katy Perry?s ?Firework? has ever been put.

Looking back at Rust and Bone afterward, you may feel surprise, even shame, that you managed to care so much about this none-too-original story of two damaged people whose unexpected connection helps them each find their way out of a bad place in their lives. But Rust and Bone is a movie about letting go of shame and making way for the advent of pleasure. Let that be your guide to watching it as well.

Managers of a?Missouri?gas station and an?Arizona?food store said on Thursday they were delighted that they may have handed tickets to the two prospective multi-millionaire winners of a record $587.5 million?Powerball lottery jackpot.

The two winning tickets were sold at the gas station and sandwich shop in the tiny farming town of Dearborn,?Missouri, about 30 miles north of Kansas City, and the food store in?Fountain Hills,?Arizona, on the outskirts of?Phoenix.

Although the identities of the ticket-holders were not immediately announced, they picked the winning numbers announced at the drawing Wednesday night: 5, 16, 22, 23, 29, and the?Powerball number 6.

They will share an estimated $385 million before taxes if they opt to take the prize as a lump sum, or the $587.5 million can be paid out to them as annuities over three decades, the?Multi-State Lottery Association?said.

Kristi Williams, a clerk at the Trex Mart convenience store in Dearborn, said she and another employee high-fived each other when they learned the morning after the drawing that one of the two winning tickets had been purchased there.

Store manager?Chris Nauerz, who was working Wednesday when the lucky ticket was purchased, called the news "shocking." He said the station gets a mix of customers, both locals from Dearborn, population 500, and truck drivers passing through on nearby Interstate 29.

"It's pretty crazy to think somebody locally could possibly be a millionaire and not know it yet," Nauerz said. "And the fact that I may have even handed over the ticket is even wilder."

The popular lottery - which is played in 42 states, Washington, D.C., and the?U.S. Virgin Islands?- had not had a winner for two months.

After no one won the top prize in Saturday's drawing, the pot grew by about $263 million to $587.5 million amid a national frenzy to buy tickets.

Bob Chebat, the manager of the store in?Arizona?where the second lucky ticket was purchased, said customers bought 986 tickets yesterday and that there was a good chance he had sold the winning ticket.

"It's almost as good as me winning," Chebat said.

"People say all the time that I'll throw you a million if I win, and no one ever has ... I guess we'll see what happens now."

Mary Neubauer, a spokeswoman for the Iowa Lottery, where?Powerball is based, said people from around the world called hoping for a chance to play but were told they had to be in a participating location to buy a ticket.

The previous?Powerball top prize of $365 million was won in 2006 by ConAgra slaughterhouse workers in?Nebraska. The largest-ever U.S. lottery jackpot, the $656 million Mega Millions drawing, was shared by three winning tickets last March.

My Quit Smoking, Lose Weight and Live Well Health Project ...

It all started back in September when I turned another year older and realised that at 43, I was getting a little too old to still be playing Russian Roulette with my health. And more recent events have convinced me that NOW IS THE TIME to make some BIG lifestyle changes.

Twenty-three years ago, when I was ?ten foot high and bullet-proof? (lol), I became a regular smoker. Ten years ago I became a chronic over-eater of junk food and five years ago, I began working from home which means I?m not moving about each day like I use to.

All these events have colluded to make me what I am today: an obese, heavy-smoker who suffers from chronic depression, sleep apnea, incontinence, poor circulation and lower-back pain. I?ve become very uncomfortable in my own skin and I am convinced, now more than ever, if something doesn?t change soon, I won?t make it to 50.

For the past couple of months I?ve been thinking about it. But it wasn?t until I took that first step four weeks ago did God, fate, the universe (or whatever you like to call it), step in to offer some much needed assistance.

That first step was a first session at my local Curves ladies fitness centre.

The very next day I received an invitation to a media event for Weight Watchers. I don?t usually attend media events because often they turn out to be a complete waste of time, offering no more insight than I can gather from reading the press release. I may not have attended this media event either, if the organisers hadn?t arranged for a car service to collect me from my home office. In the five years I?ve been running Australian Women Online, this has never happened before. But I certainly didn?t see this as a sign from God.

But I did find the Weight Watchers media event at Sydney Town Hall to be rather enlightening. Unfortunately, there is a media embargo in place until 2 December, so I can?t tell you anything more until next week. But what I can say is that what I learned that day inspired me to get off my ever-widening arse and do something about my weight problem!

Somebody up there must like me because the very next day I received an email from Weight Watchers offering me a free trial to their weight loss program. Interesting. However, it wasn?t until I spoke to Michelle at Weight Watchers, that I got the first inkling there may be bigger forces at work here.

By this time I had decided to undertake a personal health project and write about my experiences and share them on this website and via social media. So I explained all this and asked her if Weight Watchers Australia were willing to support my efforts with a free membership. All they can do was say ?NO? right?

Well as fortune would have it, she said ?YES? (thanks Michelle).

So now I was attending 3 gym sessions a week and following the Weight Watchers Unlimited program, which includes attendance at meetings and access to Weight Watchers Online. All I needed now to make this health project complete, was an effective quit smoking program and I found it in my email inbox.

I was still trying to figure out how best to tackle my smoking addiction, when a media release from Nick Terrone at QuitwithNick.com.au landed in my inbox.

So I asked Nick: ?If you can help me to quit smoking for FREE I will happily write about the experience and sing your praises at Australian Women Online.?

And guess what? He agreed! Thanks Nick!

So there you have it. This is how my health project came together. With a little help from above and a lot of help from Michelle at Weight Watchers and Nick Terrone from QuitwithNick.com.au

Now all I need is a better title for my health project! TO BE CONTINUED?

I welcome hearing about the lifestyle changes you are making and invite you all to share your experiences with us. Leave a comment below or on our Facebook page. You can also email your stories to me: deborah@australianwomenonline.com
