The big question facing L.J. Reyes, who has Fragile X syndrome, and many young adults with intellectual disabilities involves what happens after they turn 21. There's often a waiting list for funding to enable adults with disabilities to live in group homes or attend employment or other support programs.

The Arc of Pennsylvania is the state chapter of a national organization that advocates on behalf of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

There are local chapters in most counties, including The Arc of Cumberland/Perry Counties, which can be reached at 717-249-2611, and The Arc of Dauphin County, which can be reached at 717-920-2727. The Arc of York County can be reached at 717-846-6589.

In the Harrisburg area, one of the major providers of services for people with intellectual disabilities is Keystone Human Services.

PAR -- Pennsylvania Advocacy and Resources for Autism and Intellectual Disabilities -- is a non-profit organization devoted to building private sector programs for people with autism and intellectual disabilities.
