San Antonio-based Orthopaedic and Spine Institute Medical Centers Partner with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (EMHE), Episode Airing on ABC December 17, 2012

Founder of the Orthopaedic and Spine Institute, Dr. Steven J. Cyr, M.D., FAAOS partnered with ABC?s hit TV show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to deliver a new home to a wounded U.S. Army soldier, SSgt Shiloh Harris of Floresville, Texas. The episode featuring SSgt Harris will air December 17, 2012 at 8:00 pm CDT.

San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) November 01, 2012

Dr. Cyr, himself an Iraqi war veteran Air Force surgeon, served two tours of duty in Iraq, where he helped solders and airmen who had been injured on the battle field. The Army and Air Force have combined their multiple medical centers in San Antonio to serve wounded warriors, and speed their recovery efforts in what has become the military's largest existing medical complex. When Dr. Cyr wasn?t serving in war torn Iraq, he performed orthopedic surgery in San Antonio for the Armed Forces. Since separating from the Air Force, Doctor Cyr founded the Orthopaedic and Spine Institute located in San Antonio, Texas.

In 2011, when Dr. Cyr first heard about the show coming to the San Antonio area, he contacted the ABC-TV reality show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to find out how he could help. The orthopaedic and pain management practice volunteered to man tents at the home build site and pass out fruit and water to the hundreds of volunteers working round the clock to build a new home in just seven days for the Disabled Army Veteran. Dr. Cyr also provided massage treatments for the many workers on site who labored 24/7 to make this dream come true for a deserving Army Veteran.

In addition, Dr. Cyr made a large cash contribution, which was presented at the media event following the build in honor of SSgt Harris. The cash donation was presented to the United Service Organizations (USO) in SSgt Harris? name. The donation was used to purchase communication devices for use overseas. Active duty airmen, soldiers and seaman are now using the equipment to talk with their loved ones, free of charge from a number of USO sites located in Europe. Dr. Cyr's donation was also used to purchase Kindles for the USO so that our Armed Forces serving away from home can electronically read books.

ABC-TV's hit, Extreme Makeover can normally be viewed Fridays 8/7 Central Standard Time. This episode will be aired as the last and final 2-hour episode of a 10-year run on ABC. The episode airs on December 17, 2012 at 8:00 pm CDT.

The Orthopedic and Spine Institute (OSI) again plan to honor SSgt Harris at their upcoming HealthCrave Medical Centers Wellness Expo on December 1, 2012 at 21 Spurs Lane, San Antonio, Texas from 9:00 am ? 1:00 pm. OSI will present another check to the USO in honor of SSgt Harris at 12 Noon.
