Some familiar names hit the entertainment world this week, from cute little fishie Nemo (now in 3-D) to fairy-tale beauty Snow White (on DVD and Blu-ray) and Atlantic City power broker Nucky Thompson of "Boardwalk Empire" (returning to HBO for a third season). Here are our three entertainment picks.
TUESDAY: 'Snow White and the Huntsman' on DVD and Blu-ray
You may not have seen "Snow White and the Huntsman" in the theater, but the film got a big publicity burst when it was revealed that star Kristen Stewart had a fling with the film's married director, Rupert ?Sanders. Sanders offers an audio commentary on the home version, and you just know those who have dubbed Stewart a "Trampire" will be listening closely to see what he says about her. As far as the film itself goes, Stewart may have caught Sanders' eye, but co-stars Charlize Theron (as the creepy Evil Queen) and Chris "Thor" Hemsworth as the hunky Huntsman are more fun to watch. (Out on DVD and blu-Ray Sept. 11.)
FRIDAY: 'Finding Nemo 3-D'
Sure, you know the story of little Nemo and how he was whisked away from dad Marlin and ended up trapped in a dentist's fish tank in Sydney. And you know of Marlin's quest, along with memory-impaired Dory, to find his son. But now you can see the kiddie classic take on a whole new dimension -- the longtime home-video favorite is coming to theaters in 3-D. Not every film works in 3-D, and not everybody's kids are content to wear the annoying glasses. But we think a family favorite like "Nemo," with its breathtaking underwater vistas and colorful sea life, has a better shot than most of actually deserving the 3-D ticket surcharge. (Opens Sept. 14.)
SUNDAY: 'Boardwalk Empire'
It's time to go back to the 1920s, and if you have a beer in your hand, you'd better hide it. "Boardwalk Empire," the Golden Globe-winning HBO drama set among the bootleggers and other criminals of the Prohibition era in Atlantic City, returns Sept. 16. ?A major event (click here if you want spoilers) that ended last season will still be reverberating, and the Steve Buscemi-led cast will have their gun-toting hands full once again. (Sept. 16, 9 p.m., HBO.)
